It was a different world when Mitch McConnell of Kentucky entered the US Senate on January 3, 1985. Ronald Reagan ruled in the USA, but the Wall still stood in Europe. The Republicans were also a different party when McConnell took over the leadership of the Republican senators on January 3, 2007. No one seriously associated Donald Trump and the White House, and who knew Mike Johnson, currently Speaker of the House of Representatives?
