Fed Chairman Jerome Powell warned at the central bankers' meeting in Sintra against declaring victory over inflation just yet. Christine Lagarde is similarly cautious. And then there is the question of whether the elections in France will tear Europe apart.
European and American central bankers have warned against declaring inflation over just yet. “People come to me and say: you have to declare victory, it's over,” said Fed President Jerome Powell on stage at this year's meeting of central bankers of the European Central Bank in Sintra, Portugal. “But we want to be sure. We're taking our time to get this right.” Unlike the European Central Bank, the Fed has not yet cut interest rates.
