Because AI is taking away jobs for covers and advertising campaigns, illustrators fear for their future. And the question arises: Do we want machines to tell us about the world in the future?
There were three punches in the stomach, one right after the other, that were delivered to the illustrator's guild this fall. Strike one: The Reading Foundation published an advertising campaign for the nationwide reading day. The motifs featured a wolf, a polar bear and a badger, all in the hyper-realistic style of artificial image generators. Strike two: The cover of Kirsten Boie's current young adult novel “Skogland burns” was created with the help of AI. Strike three: Frank Schätzing's new novel “Heroes” also shows a woman with an ax and long platinum blonde hair on the cover, which the author and graphic designer designed together with artificial intelligence.
