The glass hall of the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin was back on Potsdamer Strasse on Sunday morning, as if nothing had happened. There were tumultuous scenes there on Friday evening when the American photographer Nan Goldin called for demonstrations at the opening of her retrospective after a sharp denunciation of Israel and Germany, which was put into practice by a large group of anti-Israel activists in the building. The rally with specially brought Palestine flags, posters and banners drowned out a differentiating counter-speech from Nationalgalerie director Klaus Biesenbach, including chants of “Intifada”.
