Kanye West, Nas and Blumentopf have been sampling jazz from Ethiopia since the nineties, and now it can be heard in the series “The Bear”. A trip to Addis Ababa to the roots of Ehtiojazz.
It was one of those great television moments that don't win awards but can emotionally anchor an entire series. In the second season of “The Bear” with the furious story about the kitchen team that wants to transform a sandwich shop in Chicago into a star restaurant, there is an episode in which pastry chef Marcus does an internship with the star chef in Copenhagen. In the scene in which he then runs through the Danish capital without the burden and stress of home and falls in love with Europe, you suddenly hear a heartbreaking saxophone over a fragile jazz waltz, which makes it clear to you that someone is coming to you and find inner peace.
