A bright building for a dark chapter

With every tram that passed through the “Plantage Middenlaan” during the German occupation of the Netherlands, there was briefly a little hope. This avenue, which runs from the east of Amsterdam to the Portuguese synagogue in the center, was already one of the most important streets in the Dutch capital. Today it is one of the greenest miles in Amsterdam, you can hear birdsong and lions roaring: the zoo and the botanical garden are right around the corner.
