Former Federal Minister Thomas de Maizière considers the German state to be “no longer capable of taking action”. Far too often laws are passed without any attention being paid to implementation. He has an idea how to do it better.
Thomas de Maizière (CDU) was head of the Chancellery and Minister of the Interior and Defense under Angela Merkel. Together with former Federal Finance Minister Peer Steinbrück (SPD), the former Federal Constitutional Judge Andreas Voßkuhle and the former publisher Julia Jäkel, he launched the “Initiative for a State Capable of Acting”. It aims for fundamental structural reform of the public sector. An interim report is due to appear shortly after the federal election.
