Strong democratic protest movements are growing worldwide: in Turkey, in Serbia, even in Gaza. Only in the recently authoritarian America there is no resistance. A political scientist explains what that could be.
When the world was still in order, or better than it is, at least: before the United States went on the path of autocracy, political discussions about bad regimes in the Middle East or Russia inevitably arose at some point: Why don't people demonstrate against it? The Russians against Putin, the Palestinians against Hamas, in short, the oppressed against their oppressors? Why don't you take to the streets millions of times to end the state of lack of freedom? Political observers then noticed to arrogance: others can do it too. And supported their analysis with shaking heads, regret, cozy pity.
