Russian city evacuated after shelling of ammunition depot

    -

The drone war between Moscow and Kyiv is expanding. The Ukrainian drones are now also hitting targets far into the Russian hinterland – now apparently an ammunition depot in northwestern Russia.

According to official information, the small town of Toropets in the Tver region of northwest Russia has been partially evacuated due to a major fire caused by drone fire. “For the safety of citizens, Governor Igor Rudenya has ordered a partial evacuation of the population from the territories where anti-aircraft defenses are deployed and the fire is being fought,” the press service of the regional government said via Telegram.

The situation is said to be under control. While according to official reports, falling drone debris caused the fire in the city, according to media reports, the drone attack was aimed at a nearby ammunition depot. The explosions triggered there led to the fire.

There are several videos of serious explosions that are said to have come from the ammunition depot. Kiev has already claimed the strikes as a success. The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, distributed one of the videos with the comment: “Russia's demilitarization is necessary to end terror.” The Russian Defense Ministry did not provide any information about drones shot down over the Tver region.

The recordings cannot be verified independently. However, there are several military units near Toropets. There is said to have been a drone attack on one of the objects in May.

Toropets is a small town with around 13,000 inhabitants, almost 400 kilometers as the crow flies northwest of Moscow.
