During the night, Russia again used combat drones against targets in Ukraine. These are said to have been largely rendered harmless. Nevertheless, there were power outages in the Ukrainian northeast.
There have been power outages in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Sumy following Russian drone attacks. The regional capital Sumy, among others, was affected, the local electricity supplier announced on Telegram. Despite ongoing repair work, over 280,000 households were still without electricity in the morning.
According to authorities, critical infrastructure objects such as hospitals and waterworks are supplied with electricity via reserve lines. According to reports, 16 Russian combat drones were shot down over the Sumy region. The area borders the embattled Russian region of Kursk, which Ukrainian troops invaded in early August.
According to Ukrainian information, the Russian military used at least 51 combat drones at night against targets in Ukraine. Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense claims to have shot down 34 of them. Twelve other Russian drones were thrown off course using electronic means and crashed. There was no information about damage or victims. In addition, two drones are said to have returned to Russian airspace. This information cannot be independently verified.
Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for over two and a half years. Russia and Ukraine regularly use combat drones.
