The composer Wolfgang Rihm has died. It is a shock for everyone who knew him even a little, including the many musicians, including Christian Thielemann and Valery Gergiev, who enjoy playing his music. The shock is all the greater because this man, who was always friendly, always curious and interested in a wide range of subjects, never arrogant and as well-read as he was obsessed with music, struggled for over twenty years with a heavy ulcer in his thigh. A wound healing disorder made life difficult for him even after the operation.
