    Many doctors view the electronic patient record critically – politics

    The electronic patient file is intended to make the work of doctors easier. But few are looking forward to it. This is not just because some people compare data collection to a pile of papers.

    Karen von Mücke is a specialist in internal medicine and diabetology. Her practice in Munich is always well attended and has several treatment rooms and a laboratory. “Everything has to go smoothly,” she says. It's been crunching for a while now. Digitalization is to blame for this, according to Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, “an important component of modern medicine” – it was actually intended to facilitate and accelerate the work of the approximately 65,000 doctors’ and psychotherapists’ practices nationwide.
