The union and VW were also unable to reach an agreement in the fourth round of negotiations. According to management, we are still “a long way” away from a solution. At least there will be new interview dates next week.
Representatives of VW management and the union negotiated until late in the evening on Monday. There was no breakthrough, but there was at least some tentative progress. VW chief negotiator Arne Meiswinkel spoke of “constructive discussions.” But he also said that they are “still a long way from a viable solution.” The fact that further talks are already taking place in the coming days shows that progress is slow smaller rounds to occupy the factories should follow. Nevertheless, Meiswinkel said this time too: “We still cannot rule out plant closures.” The sentence, in other words, is a red flag for the employee representatives.
