Bayard Rustin, a black Quäuer activist from Philadelphia, once wrote: “We are all one. And if we are not aware of this, we will learn it on the hard tour. ”In the meantime, so many have been led in our comfortable democratic world that we are now all learning on the hard tour. My home country Great Britain slides into polite repression and collapse. And here in America my life is strangely calm, while democracy is burning.
